The series takes place in ambiguous chronology. There is technology from the 2010s such as laptops, GPS and more modern objects. Yet many of the characters exhibit 1970s fashions and attitudes, and the parents seem to remember living in the 1940s-50s. Vincent Van Ghoul is a quintessential '50s B-movie actor.
