Brian Tufano, BSC, was Ridley Scott's first choice for his cinematographer and had used Tufano to shoot a promo sequence to persuade Twentieth Century Fox to cast Sigourney Weaver. However, TCF refused to hire Tufano due to his background as a BBC TV film cameraman and having never photographed a major feature film. He was, instead, hired by Franc Roddam to shoot Quadrophenia a few months later.
