A lot of the movie's plot is derived from the first story used by George Perez when he revamped the Wonder Woman comics in 1987, involving Steve Trevor ending up in Themyscira past the protective barriers and Wonder Woman being sent to man's world to deal with Ares who was promoting conflict in secret.
