Both Davis and Robinson had been in films in which each had played dual roles. Davis was in two: L'anima e il volto (1946), and Chi giace nella mia bara? (1964). Robinson played a dual role in Tutta la città ne parla (1935). He had played two different people in The Man with Two Faces (1934), but his character was an actor who used makeup and wigs to create the second person.
