Dana Plato claims she was offered the lead in L'esorcista (1973) but her Mom made her turn the role down, fearing she would be typecast if she accepted the role. Exorcist writer and producer William Peter Blatty denies this however. Dana does appear in L'esorcista II - L'eretico (1977) as a possessed girl who is counseled by Regan.
