In S3e8, Matthew (Dan Stevens) is talking to Mary at the House vs Village cricket match. At one point, (1:07:47) he says a slightly leitmotif emphasized "I have to go." Mary (Michelle Dockery) replies "Of course you have." At this point, Dan Steven's exit was inwardly known and scripted. This moment not only shows their love and devotion, but also foreshadows Stevens exit, with what seems to be acknowledged acceptance.
