This show initially drew heavily from the BBC series Absolutely Fabulous (1992), most notably with the character of Maryann, the glamorous wealthy alcoholic who always seemed to have a martini fused to her hand. It ought to be noted that most American audiences did not watch the BBC, unlike the other sitcoms this one copied, and with which US audiences were very familiar.
