Two major events in the film revolve around a Hillard family member's birthday. Near the beginning of the film, Daniel throws Chris an over-the-top birthday party. This is what causes the long-suffering Miranda to finally snap and divorce her immature husband (since she specifically said their son couldn't have a party because of his failing grades). Later, the Hillards, Stu, and 'Mrs. Doubtfire' are celebrating Miranda's birthday at a fancy restaurant. Due to a series of comical mishaps, Daniel unintentionally exposes his ruse to Miranda, Natalie, and Stu while saving Stu from choking to death.
