The name of Hughie's girlfriend in the series premiere, Robin Ward, is clearly a reference to Robin, Batman's sidekick. The original Robin's alter ego, Dick Grayson, was once known as Bruce Wayne's ward and was also portrayed by actor Burt Ward in the Batman (1966) television series.
