The shot of Quaid traveling by train on Mars and sweeping move over a Martian mountain was going to be cut from production. Like the scene with Quaid traveling to Mars, it was being cut due to budgetary concerns. According to Paul Verhoeven, Arnold Schwarzenegger stepped in and convinced the studio to give the production enough money to complete this one shot.
