In real life Hunter Schafer and Jacob Elordi became good friends during production, and would often talk with each other about their characters. They deliberately did not consult each other for the scene in which Nate reveals to Jules that he has been impersonating "Tyler" to better convey their characters' ambiguous feelings toward each other in that moment.
