Some viewers stated that during some moments in the film, Leonardo DiCaprio's performance as Hugh Glass seems "too similar" to his previous performance as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). In particular, in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), there's a long sequence where Belfort ends up overdosing, becomes partially paralyzed, and is momentarily unable to properly speak after taking Quaaludes. He had to mostly crawl with the mobile side of his body to get into his car, get home, and seek help from his wife and friend. While doing so, he makes strange noises and moans. In this film, Glass is viciously mauled by a bear which resulted in him having horrific wounds all over his body. After Hawk was murdered by Fitzgerald and he has a dream about his wife overnight, he crawls out of his grave to embrace his son's body, and then, begins his journey through the wilderness. Initially, Glass made strange noises and moans while dragging his battered body throughout the wilderness.
