In the scene where Therese and friends are watching a revival of Viale del tramonto (1950) from inside the projectionist booth, Dannie, who's taking notes while watching the movie, tells Therese that he's "charting the correlation between what the characters say and how they really feel". This was an intentional line of dialog that observes the unspoken feelings that will develop between Carol and Therese.
