Prior to playing Domino Petachi, Kim Basinger had turned down roles in two James Bond movies, including Moonraker - Operazione spazio (1979). She wanted to be taken seriously as an actress and initially felt playing a Bond girl would be inappropriate. When by the early 1980s she still hadn't made it "big," Basinger was getting a bit testy and said yes to this film just because it was guaranteed to bring her worldwide exposure.
