Director Damien Harris was originally supposed to do another film for Touchstone starring Brad Pitt and John Malkovich. However, when the funding for that film turned out to be a fraudulent situation involving the film's backers, the film was dead. Harris then chose this film because he had wanted something to do due to the fall out of the other film.
