The production ended in January 1998, just a couple of weeks after the filming of Nicole Kidman's sex scenes with Gary Goba. After the movie wrapped, Kidman flew to Washington State to begin a new project, a comedy-drama titled Amori & incantesimi (1998). A couple of weeks after beginning work on the new film, she was rushed back to Los Angeles, where she underwent a two-hour surgery for the removal of a benign ovarian cyst. According to Kidman biography by James L. Dickerson, 'As it turned out, Nicole may have been in actual pain during Goba's bone-jarring pelvic thrusts. The thrusts did not cause the cyst, but they may have aggravated the condition.' Dickerson's statement makes sense only if one assumes that Goba and Kidman really had sex during the scenes. In fact, doctors explain that ovarian cysts can cause pain during deep penetration, due to the pressure on the cysts exerted by the penis.
