Patrick Stewart's character in the film is called Dr. Armstrong. This may be an indirect reference to the novel "And Then There Were None" (1939) by Agatha Christie. Dr. Edward George Armstrong is one of the villain co-protagonists of the novel, a surgeon who tries to cover up that he had accidentally killed a patient while drunk.
