The first building we see collapse is the Woolworth Building, located in Downtown Manhattan on Broadway. We see the building while facing directly down Broadway towards the Battery. We don't see anything done to it directly. Its old age, and sunken-caisson foundation, may partly account for its collapse. The Woolworth Building (standing at 792 feet) was the tallest building in the world when it was finished in 1913 and, outside the world of Cloverfield, is still among the tallest buildings in Manhattan. Some reviewers incorrectly identified the Woolworth Building as either the Empire State Building or the Chrysler Building. We never see any damage done to either of them.
