The scenes of Faro Island were originally meant to be shot on location in Sri Lanka. However, the expensive cost of licensing King Kong from RKO inflated the budget which resulted in filmmakers having to cut back cost and cancel at the last minute. RKO reportedly charged Toho ¥80 million to license Kong, with actor Yû Fujiki commenting that, "King Kong took all the money!"
