The shots in which swarming bees fill the screen were accomplished via optical effects, which were supplemented with in-camera shots of bees. To achieve the effect of bees shooting out towards the camera, a specialized vacuum was deployed with a reverse suction. This was then superimposed over the in-camera and optical shots to achieve the overall effect.
