The painting of the Enterprise D that hangs in Picard's ready room was a collaboration between production artists Rick Sternbach and Andrew Probert. Sternbach painted the background star field, then Probert painted the ship itself (appropriate since he had designed the Enterprise D). Both artists worked on the painting on their own time. It was done with acrylic paint on a masonite board.
