Hitchcock uses the colours, light blue, white and red all through the film. The blue and white match Cary Grant's suit and shirt, and the red represents danger, and appears just prior to when Grant encounters it. Most notably, when Grant is sitting at the auction, a red carnation mysteriously appears around his head for several moments, worn by a lady several rows behind him. And also, when Grant walks into the cafeteria by Mount Rushmore, a man is sitting by the door with a red shirt, then as he orders coffee, a lady dressed in a red blouse steps in front of him. And finally, as he sits down behind a lady in a brilliant red sweater, a few moments later, Eva Marie Saint shoots him with a pistol.
