Elizabeth Whitson was originally cast as Olivia Matheson and appeared in the backdoor pilot Pretty Little Liars: Grave New World (2013). Before the filming of this series, the character was re-conceived and Whitson was replaced by Merritt Patterson, who had originally been cast as Tess Hamilton.
