By late 1987, when Bob Barker took over as Executive Producer of the program, he decided he would stop dyeing his hair and let it return to its natural gray color, a move almost unheard of at the time. He was met with resistance by CBS, many of the sponsors on the show, as well as Mark Goodson Productions. However, once they saw that the ratings didn't drop and all the fan mail that approved of his new hair, they stuck behind Barker and allowed him to go ahead with the move.
