During this grueling shoot, the Wimbledon tennis tournament was in full swing in the UK and Jack Nicholson, an avid tennis fan, had to find a way to take time out to attend, so he feigned back pain and asked for a few days off. Because of his star status, Stanley Kubrick granted him the break. Unfortunately for Jack, Kubrick later saw him on a production TV set seated in the Wimbledon crowd flanked by two women. Kubrick was apparently furious about the whole incident.
