The snake that is seen swimming past Ruth is an actual Cottonmouth, a venomous pit viper that would be found in such a habitat, while most movies commonly use a non-venomous snake unlikely to be found anywhere near the location. However, in the shot from above, it appears to be a harmless Black Ratsnake, and the snake shown hanging from Marshall's face is a non-venomous Eastern Water Snake. (Note: The movie was filmed in Oregon, while the Cottonmouth is only native to the south-eastern U.S.)
