There was an extra scene back in Kansas at the end of the film which got cut. In it, Hunk (the "real-life" counterpart to the Scarecrow) was going away to agricultural college and Dorothy was promising to write to him. It basically indicated that the slight romantic vibe some viewers picked up between Dorothy and the Scarecrow had a factual basis. This is kind of creepy in our modern day sensibilities since Dorothy was supposed to be 12 and Hunk was about 19 or 20.
