In one of the deleted scenes, Ripley comforts Lambert and asks her if she's ever slept with Ash. Lambert replies in the negative, admitting that Ash never seemed that interested in sex. Although it may sound like an impertinent question, several scrapped scenes would have made clear that members of the Nostromo crew are actually pretty comfortable having casual sex with each other, but according to the creators, as a synthetic, Ash couldn't, even if he wanted to. However, Sir Ridley Scott decided to get rid of this angle.
