Ted Bundy's final arrest in 1978 took place in a residential neighborhood near the Alabama state line during the early hours of morning (1:00 a.m.) in real-life instead of an empty field in broad daylight, the latter of which was depicted in the film. While a chase occurred in both scenarios, the film's arrest showed the police officer catching up with Bundy and beating him several times to incapacitate him. This is contradicted by the real-life arrest wherein Bundy kicked the legs of the arresting officer David Lee and escaped, causing the latter to fire two warning shots to distract him. Lee caught up with Bundy and the two struggled over Lee's gun before the officer finally subdued and arrested Bundy.
