Whilst the death scenes in "The Omen" (1976) were designed to originate from "accidents" that actually could have happened, there are several deaths in this series that take a leaf from the sequels, particularly "Damien: Omen II", which are far more bizarre. For example, in a sequence where his son almost drowns in a swimming pool, Detective Shay sees the shape of a demon rising out of the pool cover. Later on in the series, Veronica Selvaggio is (even more unbelievably) attacked and ultimately killed by the roots of a demonically-possessed tree! In its favour, the series does depict more believable "accidents", such as one of the Vatican's hitmen being crushed by an out of control car, one of John Lyons's henchmen falling on an escalator and getting his tie caught in the rising escalator, and Kelly Baptiste drowning in a sinkhole. Encouragingly, many of these accidents that Damien actually witnesses cause him considerable distress.
