The actual Mig-31 was a 2 seater. The crew consisted of a pilot and a radar/ weapons operator in the rear cockpit. The aircraft could not engage in combat with only a pilot. The Mig-31 was equipped with a revolutionary data link computer system that allowed all the aircraft in a formation to coordinate their attacks. This gave rise in the West to the belief that the aircraft could "read" the minds of the pilots.
