For most films that require CGI creatures there's often an actor dressed in a motion capture suit hopping around giving the actors something to react to. Due to the sheer gargantuan size of Godzilla and Kong this was a lot harder to pull off than usual. So the VFX team made use of tennis balls to showcase the placeholder location of where the creature would be The actors were able to imagine more or less where they would direct their emotions and reactions. For Millie Bobby Brown this was nothing new and she went through the same process for Stranger Things many times over. She even admitted that she loves acting with these invisible creatures represented through tennis balls. Speaking about the experience she said the following: "It's really fun though because it adds such a lovely mystical, surreal element to it. It's so beautiful and so magical, and it takes you out of the real world and puts you into that world." she even added that she loves the escapism of it all as the real world isn't so great all the time. Tennis balls weren't the only technique used by the filmmakers to represent the creature's positioning. A much simpler method that actually proved incredibly effective on set preparation and a laser pointer before every scene director Adam Wingard took the actors to plan for the scene showcasing storyboards of where the monsters would be around them and were they'd land up in the end. The filmmakers use a laser pointer to show where the monsters were going and moving from. This gave the likes of Millie Bobby Brown the opportunity to get a visualized idea of what to do and where not to go.
