All Gems thus far appear as humanoid females and even use female pronouns despite previous explicit stating that the Gems have no gender due to being, in essence, sentient rocks from space. As such, Steven is the first and only "male" Gem. Rebecca Sugar has since changed this idea, deciding that all gems are female and are only technically without a gender. This has actually had a visible impact on the show's development.
