During an interview with Joel McHale, who plays Sylvester Pemberton/Starman, Bassinger discussing bringing the Cosmic Staff to life. "There was definitely like a learning period, a lot of trial and error not only with like the practicality of the Staff, like the light beam and how they were going to do the digital effects after, but also just it as my scene partner," she explained. Bassinger also noted that Stargirl co-creator and showrunner Geoff Johns would remind her that the staff was a living thing, which led to a unique method of acting. Bassinger said that whenever she got a new script, she would highlight her scenes, as well as any action involving the staff, which helped her to make it feel like it was alive.
