As of 2022, this is the only Star Trek feature film where no one dies (including all films between Star Trek (1979) and Star Trek: Beyond (2016)). Any killing referenced in this film - such as the whales' extinction, deaths of the Klingons from Star Trek III - Alla ricerca di Spock (1984), the punk rocker's song "I Hate You", and Dr. McCoy's "Spanish Inquisition" comment - occur outside the film's time-line. It's also the only Star Trek film (again, as of 2022) to take place almost entirely on Earth.
