While the era in which the film is set is ambiguous (this is true in much of the Batman universe but especially in the animated series and related animated films), Dick Grayson gives a hint toward how early the film could be set. Dick tells someone to "take his Corvette." The Corvette was first produced in 1953, meaning the film could not be set earlier than that. Other era touchstones in the film send a more contradictory message. The style of cars, architecture, and dancing indicate that the film is set in the first half of the twentieth century, while the presence of computers and televisions in the hospital suggest a more modern era.
