Rian Johnson's original cut of the film exceeded three hours. Reports say he cut between 45 and 60 minutes to get the film down to a more palatable run time. Several of the deleted scenes can be seen on the Blu-ray edition of the film, most of them alternate or extended versions of scenes that remained in the movie. A scene that was completely omitted is one where Rey notices a ship docking near the village of the Caretakers on Ahch-To. Luke tells her that it is a party of marauders that raid the place once a month. He urges her not to intervene, explaining that it is part of the balance between good and bad that the Jedi are supposed to respect. Rey ignores him and goes to the rescue, only to find out the 'marauders' are a different tribe that have simply come to party. Luke admits that he wanted to test her, as he believes that the galaxy is in more urgent need of Rey's willingness to take action than the Jedi way of keeping balance.
