When the film was released it became one of the most divisive Godzilla movie among fans. Significant portions of the Godzilla fandom either loved the movie or outright hated it. Many fans walked out during the film's premier in LA in 2004. To this day it continues to be a polarizing film in the fandom, sparking debates among those who liked and disliked the film.
