The rescheduled April 1993 release date for the film went into conflict with another Richard Gere picture, 'Sommersby' (1993) from Warner Bros., which had been slated for a late March 1993. This meant that two pictures with the same movie star would be in the market in competition with each other. However, Warner Bros. avoided any possible confusion by bringing 'Sommersby' forward about 6 weeks to two months early, to 5th February 1993. In the end, with another round of re-shoots in June 1993 and further edits and re-editing, 'Mr. Jones' ended up not debuting anyway until 22nd October 1993, way after 'Sommersby' (1993).
