This movie shares a lot of similarities to the Chevy Chase comedy Fletch (1985) both are about investigators who live by the california beach who become involved in a plot involving a rich family, both have protaganists who come across a corrupt police force and both have scenes in which a main Caucasian character appears in a dream sequence wearing make up to look like an African American on TV
