In the scene where Thomas goes to steal back the stamps from Marco (aided by Milo and the other ghosts) there is a huge rottweiler chasing them all. The ghosts are already dead and don't necessarily need to run away from it. However, as established earlier in the film, the ghosts cannot stray more than a few feet from Thomas. Therefore, they would have to run from the dog to keep up with Thomas.
