The rights to the film are currently owned by Disney as part of its 2019 purchase of 21st Century Fox, the parent of 20th Century Fox. Disney once owned the rights to the 2002 film that was ultimately adapted from the same play until it sold the division that produced it, Miramax, in 2010. Both versions coincidentally are musicals, but the musical numbers are different in each version.
