Both Bob Newhart and Mary Tyler Moore show were about mild mannered menches thrown into an urban business environment they're not entirely comfortable with where they have to contend with a supporting cast of crazies. Both are about middle aged yuppie single type adults living in a city in the Midwest. Mary's single; Emily and Bob are DINKs, (Double Income No Kids). Both were lighthearted Romcoms that occasionally strayed into serious territory, sporadically exploring issues like homosexuality or divorce or sexism. Both shows were hugely acclaimed, considered two of the best on television.
