Whereas the regular monster Mothra appears once again, this film marks the long-awaited return of Toho Monsters that have not been seen in decades, including Anguirus (last seen in Godzilla contro i robot (1974)), Rodan (last seen in Gojira vs. Mekagojira (1993)), and Gigan (not seen since Ai confini della realtà (1973)). Kumonga (Spiga) and Manda were last seen in Gli eredi di King Kong (1968), and Kamacuras (Gimantis) and Godzilla's son Minilla were last seen in Il ritorno di Gorgo (1969). There are also returns from monsters not seen since their first appearances, such as Ebirah (from Il ritorno di Godzilla (1966), not counting his stock-footage appearance in Il ritorno di Gorgo (1969)!), Hedorah (from Godzilla - Furia di mostri (1971) ) and King Caesar (from Godzilla contro i robot (1974)).
