Sir Ridley Scott wonders if it's melodramatic to have Rick Deckard be a replicant. "At the time it's like, you know it's okay if he is and it's okay if he isn't", he says. "I was figured in the back of my mind that the natural choice would be that he's a replicant, particularly if there was going to be a sequel, the sequel will never be." Ironically, a sequel, Blade Runner 2049 (2017), was released on October 6, 2017.
