Around 1948, Edwin Land came up with a relatively simple process for instant photography that worked within the camera, and was essentially "dry", not requiring messy chemicals. In 1948, at the Polaroid Christmas party, he ran the scene in which a view camera is used to "magically" produce an instant ID for Jack Benny. Land announced "That's what we're going to do."
