Alberto's island represents his unwillingness to accept his father's abandonment and move on. Until he meets Luca, he remained on the island in his hideout in the hopes that one day, his father would return. Towards the end of the story, Luca is concerned that his friend will be okay if he leaves. Alberto responds with: "You got me off the island, Luca. I'm okay."
