Matt Reeves cites the Batman comics "Batman: Ego", "Batman: Year One" and "Batman: The Long Halloween" as the main influences on the film. Funnily enough, Jeph Loeb, who wrote "The Long Halloween," was one of Reeves' screenwriting teachers when he was at USC.
