In Season 2, episode 5, Stranger Things: Chapter Five: Dig Dug (2017), when Bob (Sean Astin) sees Will's (Noah Schnapp) map, he says that 'X' must mark the spot of a treasure. Astin was worried that this would only be a reference to his role as Mikey following a treasure map in I Goonies (1985), and that viewers wouldn't attribute this to Bob solving Will's puzzle.
