The Gungans in the underwater Gungan City was based on Jabba the Hutt since Jabba eats bullfrogs. He's seen in this movie eating a bucket of bullfrogs, and opens the pod race in Star Wars: Episodio I - La minaccia fantasma (1999) by biting the head off of a frog and spitting it onto the gong to start the race. Their skin tones also match the environment in which they live.
